San Diego > Yuma, Arizona
On we go! Leaving San Diego behind you, locate and continue onto the number 8 Freeway East towards Yuma and Arizona. It’s a 7-hour drive from San Diego to Tucson, AZ so we suggest getting up early! When you drive around Arizona in July through mid September you will find it pretty hot! And expect almost daily afternoon thunderstorms, some severe. You won’t need a flash on your camera, if you know what we mean…
Anyway, about half way between San Diego and Tucson you will find… nothing. Although the locals refer to it as the town of Yuma, right on the border between California and Arizona. It is a good place for lunch, however all you will find is fast food and truckers. It is a big truck and railway hub connecting both States. Somewhat ‘isolated’ from the world surrounded by the outskirts of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts and just a couple of ‘feet’ away from Mexico, gives Yuma still something memorable. At least we remembered.
