Mammoth Lakes > Yosemite National Park
It's just 45 minutes from Mammoth Lakes to the Tioga Road Entrance of Yosemite National Park. Continue North on the 395 until road side signs direct you to take a left toward Yosemite National Park.
Yosemite National Park embraces a spectacular tract of mountain-and-valley scenery in the Sierra Nevada, which was set aside as a national park in 1890. The park harbors a grand collection of waterfalls, meadows, and forests that include groves of giant sequoias, the world's largest living things. Highlights of the park include Yosemite Valley, and its high cliffs and waterfalls; Wawona's history center and historic hotel; the Mariposa Grove, which contains hundreds of ancient giant sequoias; Glacier Point's (summer-fall) spectacular view of Yosemite Valley and the high country; Tuolumne Meadows (summer-fall), a large subalpine meadow surrounded by mountain peaks; and Hetch Hetchy, a reservoir in a valley considered a twin of Yosemite Valley.
The park ranges from 2,000 feet above sea level to more than 13,000 feet and has these major attractions; alpine wilderness, three groves of Giant Sequoias and the glacially carved Yosemite Valley with impressive waterfalls, cliffs and unusual rock formations. Source: US National Park Service.
Some activities to enjoy while visiting Yosemite National Park may include but are not limited to: viewing waterfalls and well-known rock features in Yosemite Valley; visit to Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias and historic Wawona area; drive or hike to Glacier Point, an overlook with a commanding view of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome and the High Sierra; drive to Tuolumne Meadows along Tioga Road and take a hike. There are also regularly scheduled ranger led walks, talks and evening programs, bus tours, guided horseback rides and bicycle rentals.
You will find limited lodging facilities around the park, therefore we would suggest you stay in Mammoth Lakes and enter the park via the Tioga Road (one of the most scenic routes through the park) and before nightfall leave the park at the El Portal entrance and find lodging outside park boundaries. If you’re into camping you must reserve campsite(s) in advance. You will find more information about Yosemite National Park and campsite reservation at the official Yosemite NP website of the US National Park Service.
