Monterey and Carmel > Highway 1, Pacific Coast Higway
The final stage of The Grand Tour around California, Arizona, southern Utah and Nevada is your journey along the beautiful pacific coastline of southern California on the Pacific Coast Highway. From Monterey or Carmel you could also take the US-101 freeway down to LA and cut your travel time in half, but taking the curving road with astonishing views over the pacific could definitely add a little extra to your trip! However checkout local weather forecast first before you decide, as heavy ocean fog may very well take all the fun out of driving. And believe us, with fog in the forecast you wont see anything but the road.
You don’t need driving directions because its one highway all the way down. You will pass Big Sir, famous for its ocean views and surfer friendly seas, Moro Bay and Pismo Beach (already connecting with the US-101 again) with its typical Californian shore lines and beaches and finally past Santa Barbara. Beautiful, easygoing, basking in year-round sunshine, beachside Santa Barbara is the hub of a large and spectacular coastal California county. Lying seductively between Los Angeles and San Francisco, just off scenic Highway 101, city and county alike are amazingly rich in diverse surprises, pleasures, and attractions. Worth a final stop before -The End-
