Sedona > Flagstaff

Its only 30 miles (50 minutes) from Sedona to Flagstaff. Its an amazing ride through the Oak Creek Canyon, with curving roads, towering forest trees and refreshing white water streams. The reason we ‘build in’ Flagstaff to this tour, is because from this town you have easy access to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley (our next destination). Flagstaff furthermore offers a huge amount of Hotels and Motels as this town serves many travelers because of its convenient location. To get from Sedona to Flagstaff start out going NORTH on AZ-89 ALT / SI BIRCH HWY toward APPLE AVE. Continue to follow AZ-89 ALT. Turn RIGHT onto W JOHN WESLEY POWELL BLVD. Merge onto I-17 N via the ramp on the LEFT. Merge onto S MILTON RD. Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto I-40 BL / W US-66 / US-89.

Things to do when you’re in Flagstaff, Arizona

You do not need to stay overnight, you can continue to Monument Valley when you start you day early. But in case you have time, of course there are things you could do when you’re in Flagstaff. We’ve come up with two options, but more is available from our Tours&Tickets section.

Petrified Forest, Painted Desert and Meteor Crater (day tour – 9 hrs)
Travel to Meteor Crater, where a giant meteor impacted on the earth and where astronauts trained for space missions. Afterwards, you'll visit the combined National Parks of Petrified Forest and painted Desert. Learn how this giant forest was turned to stone and enjoy views of the colorful Painted Desert cliffs as they change hue throughout the day. You'll also see ancient petroglyphs and the ruins of prehistoric Indian dwellings. This tour is seasonal and only operates from 1 April to 15 November. Book this tour.

Grand Canyon Overnight (2 days / 1 night)
Spend the maximum time at the Grand Canyon on this two-day tour. You'll arrive at the Canyon before noon and have plenty of time to explore. Enjoy breathtaking overlooks along the rim before returning to your hotel for the evening. Tickets are also included for the Imax Theatre, conveniently located near the hotel. On your second day, enjoy the morning on your own, and then after lunch, your guide will meet you for a scenic tour along the East Rim Drive and the vast Navajo Indian Reservation. A stop is made at historic Cameron Trading Post for some shopping before your return to Flagstaff. Book this tour.
